One critical note: standard US water bottles, metal or plastic do not fit in door-storage compartments. I found a smaller diameter "tea" bottle and square Fiji 16 oz plastic container for those spaces as I do not like to have a-liter-size bottle always sticking out in cupholders on console. I would urge Volvo to prepare leather setback protective coves for toddlers in rear-facing carseats. I find the choice of 4-bike rack only heavy and cumbersome, but treat it as a challenge to keep lifting kettle bells and stay limber! One last thought: I miss rain gutters: rain falls onto rear seats when door is opened. It is lame to have holes in waterproof floor mats! I plan to seal with removable soft silicone product called SUGRU.
As I grow into ownership of XC70 Premier, I wish it were 15% smaller overall. I chose it for visibility, seating comfort, safety, proximity to dealer and service. There is a persistent reflection from silver band on dash vent next to driver's side mirror. The door storage does not accept standard water bottles. I find the front "nose" high, a stretch across to check curb in parking, the doors heavier to maneuver than I would like. That the floor mats in rear have holes shocked me when a flower vase tipped and soaked carpet underneath. I expected lower mileage, but hope it will improve from new range 15-18.5, city and highway. I am tracking mileage as car average generally says 17. Having just experienced a flat tire on Subaru Forester with full-size spare, I am suspicious of smaller spare in Volvo. My preference would be for more practicality in cleaning the interior. Those are my negatives. Overall, it is a pleasure to drive.

The manual shift option is backward. It should be forward for lower gears and backward for higher as in a manual transmission and many other automatics. The "automatic" height adjustment of the shoulder belts is a poor compromise. I would prefer being able to manually set the position of the belt.Would prefer the V70 without all the plastic trim and jacked up suspension of the XC70, why isn't it available in the US?So far I am disappointed with the fuel economy. Our 2001 V70 had a larger engine with lower compression and a 5 speed transmission and yet it normally got well over 30 mpg on the highway. The XC70 has a smaller engine with higher compression and direct injection plus an 8 speed transmission, yet our highway mileage so far is around 28.The large diameter wheels with SUV tires are heavier and ride more roughly than a smaller wheel with a touring tire. Would prefer a 16" wheel with grand touring tires for a smooth, quiet ride with equal or better handling.
